Dmitriy Ilyich Petrovskij is a calligrapher, poet, and artist. He currently teaches at various universities in St. Petersburg. He is a lecturer on the course of typeface and calligraphy at the Institute of Arts of the Philology Faculty of St. Petersburg State University. He’s an assistant professor at the graphics department of St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design. He’s the author of a series of books on “Zrimiy Glagol” and has collaborated with many Russian publishers and exhibitions.

Dmitriy Ilyich has also strongly influenced my creativity and skill development. His charisma and teaching abilities are particularly outstanding. In his book based on historical samples, “Zrimiy Glagol 3. Calligraphic History of Russia and Western Europe,” a variation of the Vyaz script will be reviewed in this internet article.

Materials for writing:
1) Pen nib holders
1.1) Pen nibs. Preferred sizes 3mm, 2.5 mm and 1.5 mm (Brause, Leonardt “Round”, Tape brands);
1.2) Pilot Parallel Pen;
2) Flat brush (Pinax “Hi-Tech 224” synthetic brush #10 flat);
3) Talens liquid watercolor, gouache or ink;
4) Printing paper A4 or A3;
5) A4 sized checkered notebook

Letters can be started either from the serif or the main stroke (stem). But of course, it’s recommended to start with the stem. Letters А-А-Б
